Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect during my first session?

During the first session (assessment), I will learn more about your challenges and strengths as well as your goals for therapy. This will help inform a treatment plan that will guide us during therapy.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

CBT or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions and behaviours and how making changes to one can influence the others.

How long can I expect to spend in therapy?

This will depend on each individual person but generally therapy can be between 8 and 20 sessions. Each session is 50 minutes and you can attend weekly, bi-weekly or whatever works best for you.

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

ACT or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy teaches people not to avoid painful thoughts and emotions but rather to focus on living a meaningful life guided by their values.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

You should confirm with your insurance provider that they do cover therapy offered by a Registered Psychotherapist (RP). Many cover psychotherapy but not all cover RPs.
